hi.

Is there any freeware word processor for Windows 3.1?

I have [OT for ACF] Word 6.0 now, but I think it's old..

FWIW: Word 6.0 often sh*ts all over itself when trying to read
.DOC's saved by later ver's of Word. OTOH, it's fine if all you
need is to write .DOC's.

A question:
A couple of years ago I noticed that when trying to open Word or
Excel files in W3.1 they would fail, and one of the messages that got
my atention was that they were trying to write to the Register. I had
no reason to suspect macro viruses. In the last while I haven't seen
this happen -I don't receive them very often now. Did anybody see
this happening?

Mini Notetab v2.6,
ftp://ftp.unige.ch/pub/msdos/win/mnote16.zip

Don't know if that link actually works, but it was an excellent text
editor.
There was also something called Yeah, Write that had, I thought, a
terrific interface.

But why in God's name would you need 3.1?

There's freeware add-on by Microsoft, which allows Word 6 to read
files created by modern versions, BTW.

Interesting! I've never seen such a message. Perhaps, the files you've
tried to open were too complicated - DDE/OLE links, embedded foreign
objects etc?

For some maybe.

I still got my old 66MHz 486 running Windows 3.1.
Used for running my old scanner (not supported by Windows XP) and running
old
business applications that crash on WinXP.
